New Delhi, July 16 (ANJI): Indian Navy personnel joined the ITO Barrage gate opening operation on July 16. The Gate opening work has been underway at ITO Barrage since the morning. The gate was blocked due to the breach of the ITO regulator on July 13. The water level, which had breached the danger mark, flooding vast swathes of Delhi was recorded at 206.02 metres early in the morning. A bund was also created by the Indian Army Corps of Engineers on July 15 to prevent the Yamuna water from entering the city. Key arterial roads and nearby areas in the national capital remained affected on July 15 due to waterlogging from fresh showers while the Yamuna continued to be in spate. Meanwhile, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) carried out rescue operations in the low-lying areas near Pragati Maidan late at night on July 15 as the Yamuna continued to be in spate, officials said. Hundreds of people, who were rescued from low-lying areas by the NDRF personnel, spent the night at a relief camp in Mayur Vihar. Fresh showers lashed various parts of the national capital on July 15, leading to extensive waterlogging at arterial stretches and bringing traffic to a crawl. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on July 14 predicted that Delhi will likely receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms over the next 4-5 days.
